What is a Civilian Sheepdog? Empty What is a Civilian Sheepdog?

Let's open up another conversation we've had before.

It's an interesting problem to tackle - what exactly is a civilian sheepdog?

It'll be a different description for Canadians than anybody else, and I think that's what makes it an interesting topic.

In my opinion, a sheepdog is someone who takes it upon himself (or herself) to look out for their fellow man (or woman), be it a part of their job, a feeling of responsibility, or something else....

A Civilian Sheepdog, however, is someone who does so with no expectation of compensation.

Excellent post, Scratch.

I like to take it a half-step further and say that a Civilian Sheepdog is someone who takes it upon him/herself to become prepared, equipped, and trained to be self-sufficient enough that he/she is capable of extending his/her knowledge, skills, and abilities in the assistance of others in a time of crisis. I know, it's a mouthful. haha

We cannot ride along on willpower alone - training, practice, persistence and time all play their roles in shaping us into effective responders, caregivers, leaders and team members.

I would like to add to Wilson and Scratch's post. A sheepdog is someone who is also guided by a moral compass that they will follow even if it means that they place themselves in danger or peril.

A sheepdog doesnt pick his or her battles based on ease a quiet, they do it because it is simply the right thing to do.

I believe it also is about being aware of what is happening around us, politically......who is removing our rights and freedoms and thus our liberty. We need to be cognizant of these actions and speak up whenever we can to our MLA's, MP's and also to the sheep. Try to open some eyes.
