870 101 - Part 2 - Add-ons

ARTICLE HERE

We've established already that the 870 is an excellent, multi-purpose platform. You can take one off the shelf and build a gun that is not only personal to you - but a gun that can serve multiple uses. From a dedicated deer gun to a weapon system, the 870 is an excellent starting point for both amateur and professional shooters alike.

In regards to use of side-saddle shell holders, it is always a good policy to have your shells upside down inside the holder as it is faster to load them into the magazine tube from that position. You pull them down and out of their individual sockets and then slip them into the tube, as opposed to pulling them up and out and then having to bring your hand around the firearm.

If requested I'll do a video demonstrating this (though I will have to reinstall my MESA Tactical side saddle first, as I've reverted to "stock" to streamline operation and reduce weight).

Personally - I carry 2 up, 3 down, slug up.

I think it just comes down to POU.

I go 100% with what I plan to be doing. If I'm shooting birds, rabbits, or clays I'll go with the #7's throughout. If I'm in bear country and just want to be extra safe, it's 00B. I tend not to mix and match too much because in the heat of the moment (if I need to load and fire the thing to defend my life or the life of my party) I'll just be plugging them in as fast as I can fire them off.
