Military Gear (subdued, MOLLE) Empty Military Gear (subdued, MOLLE)

I've read different accounts from people online finding value in military gear.

Even gear that isn't milspec, but just styled to 'look' like it.

I can definitely see the point in having milspec gear as a part of your system, whatever that may be - hiking, camping, survival. It's built to last. It probably doesn't come with the same kind of warranty, if at all. Unless you purchase from some company, not surplus, you'll likely only get the amount of wear that the product can handle before you have to either buy again or find another solution.

The question is, do you have military gear in your systems?

If so, what?

Coming from a Military background, it's hard to NOT have at least some military style equipment in my kit.

Things like Molle packs and pouches. KFS, etc.

I used outfit myself almost entirely out of military, or military-styled items. I've been moving away from that recently as the private, civilian, market has better equipment at better prices, at far lighter weights. The whole "tactical" fad is kind of silly, I find.

Mind you, most of my combative stuff is still all military. My rigs, weapons, etc. are all of military specification. When it comes to most everything else, though, it's civvie all the way.

How about mess kit?

I was out camping about found that my MEC camp-cook-set wasn't half as sturdy as my VN era canteen set.

I have a small camping cast iron set that I haul out when camping. While it's a little more weight than most people prefer to hike with, I like the durability it offers. I also carry full size utensils. If you pack smart you can fit it all into the bottom of your pack and you'll hardly notice you're carrying it.
